Statement from UCI Regarding the Appropriations Committee Requiring the Library of Congress to use Demeaning Terms

NEW YORK – MAY 19, 2016 – We commend Reps. Sánchez, Butterfield and Chu for their leadership in helping effect change to an outdated vernacular.  Univision strongly supports the Members as they work to eliminate demeaning terms from the Library of Congress and we urge the Appropriations Committee to take action in recognition of the negative impact such terms have on our society.

NUEVA YORK – 19 DE MAYO DE 2016 – Felicitamos a los Congresistas Sánchez, Butterfield y Chu por su liderazgo al ayudar a efectuar cambios a una lengua vernácula anticuada. Univision apoya firmemente a los miembros del Congreso que se dedican a eliminar términos degradantes de la Biblioteca del Congreso e instamos al Comité de Asignaciones a que tome medidas que reconozcan el impacto negativo que dichos términos tienen en nuestra sociedad .
