Aquí y Ahora and FRONTLINE Collaborate to Air – Love, Life & the Virus – The Story of an Immigrant Family’s Battle with COVID-19 and How their Community Stepped in to Help
WHAT: Univision’s Aquí y Ahora and FRONTLINE collaborate to air a Spanish-language version of Love, Life & the Virus this Sunday.
Love, Life & the Virus, chronicles a 30-year-old mother named Zully’s fight to survive COVID and see her newborn baby, after giving birth on a ventilator and spending nearly three weeks in a coma — as her husband, Marvin, and older son, Junior, battled the virus as well.
From director Oscar Guerra, Love, Life & the Virus tells the story of how, in the Guatemalan immigrant family’s moment of crisis, their community in Stamford, CT, stepped in to help. Just before giving birth and being put into a coma, and with nowhere else to turn, Zully reached out to her older son’s ESL teacher, Luciana Lira — an immigrant herself — who would ultimately take in the newborn while the family recovered.
With extraordinary access to the medical professionals who cared for Zully and her baby, and those around her throughout it all, the film is a heart-wrenching and heartwarming look at one family’s quest to be reunited — and the community members who helped make it possible.

QUÉ: El magacín de noticias Aquí y Ahora y FRONTLINE colaboran para transmitir una versión en español de Love, Life & the Virus (Amor, Vida y el Virus) este domingo en Univision.
Amor, Vida y el Virus es la crónica de Zully, una madre de 30 años que lucha para sobrevivir el COVID y ver a su hijo recién nacido tras dar a luz estando conectada a un respirador y luego de pasar tres semanas en coma, mientras su esposo Marvin, y su hijo mayor Junior, también luchaban contra el virus.
Amor, Vida y el Virus fue dirigida por Óscar Guerra, y cuenta la historia de cómo la comunidad de Stamford, CT, apoyó en un momento de crisis a una familia inmigrante de Guatemala. Poco antes de dar a luz y ser inducida en coma, Zully le pidió ayuda a la maestra de inglés de su hijo mayor, Luciana Lira, también inmigrante, quien cuidó al recién nacido mientras la familia se recuperaba.
Con extraordinario acceso a los profesionales médicos que cuidaron a Zully y a su bebé, y todos los que la ayudaron durante su enfermedad, el documental es una ventana a los angustiantes y enternecedores esfuerzos de una familia para volver a estar juntos, así como a los miembros de la comunidad que ayudaron a que fuera posible.
