Liverpool and Chelsea Fight for European Crown in First-Ever All-English Super Cup
Atlanta United and Club América Battle for North American Bragging Rights in Campeones Cup
WHAT: Continental bragging rights will be on the line on Wednesday, August 14, when TUDN, the multi-platform sports division of Univision Communications Inc., brings fanáticos two of the most highly anticipated soccer matches of the summer, the UEFA Super Cup and Campeones Cup. The action begins with the European title game between Liverpool FC and Chelsea, live from Beşiktaş Park in Istanbul, at 2 p.m. ET; the North American faceoff, Atlanta United vs. Club América, will take place at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta at 7 p.m. ET.
Both matches will air live on Univision and TUDN in addition to streaming on TUDN.TV and the TUDN mobile app. TUDN Radio will also have live coverage.
Fútbol season is set to kick off in Europe, and it all starts with the UEFA Super Cup. For the first time in its history, two English sides, Liverpool FC (the 2018-19 Champions League winner) and Chelsea FC (the 2018-19 Europa League winner), will battle for the coveted trophy. The event will be groundbreaking, as UEFA has appointed Stéphanie Frappart to referee the match, marking the first time a woman oversees a major UEFA men’s competition. It could also mark American superstar Christian Pulisic’s debut for Chelsea in an official continental competition.
Meanwhile, after securing their berth in the Campeones Cup by defeating Tigres last month, Liga MX champions Club América will take on reigning MLS Cup winners Atlanta United on Wednesday night. Led by Giovanni Dos Santos, las Aguilas come to this game after signing superstar goalkeeper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa; Atlanta’s superb striker Josef Martinez will lead the attack for the home team.
