WHAT: “El Príncipe” (The Prince), a story of impossible love, lawlessness and clashing cultures that has captivated audiences in Spain, will soon enthrall UniMás viewers, offering a window onto a town where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean and world issues and perennial human themes come to a head.
In Ceuta, a Spanish colonial outpost surrounded by Morocco, civilizations come into contact as Christians and Muslims coexist as they have for centuries. But because of its location, the town is also home to smugglers of everything from drugs to human beings. Many live and work in the city’s Príncipe Alonso district, making it a tough part of a tough city. In this eagerly-awaited UniMás series, co-creators Aitor Gabilondo and César Benítez tell the story of El Príncipe and the people who live there.
Spanish actor and “X-Men” veteran Alex González is police captain Javier Morey. As the series opens, he arrives from the mainland to take over the district’s police force from no-nonsense veteran cop Francisco Peyón (award-winning actor José Coronado), who has maintained order in the cartel-plagued district by taking the law into his own hands.
But Morey’s real goal isn’t just to pacify the neighborhood. A special agent with Spain’s National Intelligence Center (CNI), he has been sent to investigate reports of El Príncipe cops’ role in jihadist movements. CNI suspects a network of Islamic terrorists is forming in Ceuta and aims to put a stop to it.
Morey decides to recruit Muslim teacher Fátima (played by “El Corazón del Océano” star Hiba Abouk) as an informer. Fátima, who is engaged, has connections: she is the younger sister of local drug kingpin Faruq (Rubén Cortada). But she also has her own agenda: finding her missing teenage brother, who, Morey suspects, may have been recruited by the jihadists. All of this makes Fátima a key asset for Morey’s investigation, but things take an unexpected turn when he falls hopelessly in love with her. Subsequent episodes chronicle their relationship, which is challenged by divided loyalties, jihadist violence and hidden allegiances against the dramatic backdrop of a city straddling two worlds and facing issues that could come directly from today’s headlines.

QUÉ: “El Príncipe”, una historia de amor imposible, criminalidad y culturas incompatibles que ha cautivado a la audiencia en España, pronto conquistará a los televidentes de UniMás al ofrecer una ventana a un pueblo donde el mar Mediterráneo se encuentra con el océano Atlántico, y donde problemas internacionales y temas humanos perennes llegan a un punto crítico.
En Ceuta, un enclave de la España colonial rodeado por Marruecos, donde las civilizaciones entran en contacto, cristianos y musulmanes coexisten, como lo han hecho durante muchos siglos. Pero debido a su ubicación, también viven en ese lugar contrabandistas de todo tipo, desde drogas hasta seres humanos. Muchos viven y trabajan en el distrito Príncipe Alonso de la ciudad, que lo hace la zona oscura de una ciudad peligrosa. En esta esperada serie de UniMás, los creadores Aitor Gabilondo y César Benítez cuentan la historia de El Príncipe y la gente que vive allí.
El actor español y veterano de “X-Men” Alex González es el capitán de la policía Javier Morey. Al inicio de la serie, llega de Europa continental para tomar control de la fuerza policiaca, que estaba a cargo de un recio veterano, Francisco Peyón (el galardonado actor José Coronado), quien, tomando la ley en sus propias manos, ha mantenido el orden en el distrito asolado por el cartel.
Pero el verdadero objetivo de Morey no es apaciguar el vecindario. Es un agente especial del Centro Nacional de Inteligencia (CNI) de España, quien ha sido enviado a investigar informes sobre el papel de agentes de la policía de El Príncipe en movimientos yijadistas. CNI sospecha que se está formando una red de terroristas islámicos en Ceuta y se propone ponerle fin.
Morey decide reclutar como informante a la maestra musulmana Fátima (interpretada por Hiba Abouk, estrella de “El Corazón del Océano”). Fátima, quien está comprometida, tiene conexiones: es la hermana menor de un capo local de las drogas, Faruq (Rubén Cortada). Pero ella también tiene una misión: encontrar a su hermano menor que ha desaparecido y quien Morey sospecha podría haber sido reclutado por los yijadistas. Todo esto hace de Fátima un recurso clave para la investigación de Morey, pero las cosas toman un giro inesperado cuando este se enamora perdidamente de ella. Los episodios siguientes relatan su relación, en la que se interfieren lealtades contrarias, la violencia yijadista y alianzas ocultas, con el dramático trasfondo de una ciudad que abarca dos mundos y enfrenta problemas que podrían venir directamente de los titulares de la actualidad.
