Rosemary Mercedes is Executive Vice President and Chief Communications Officer (CCO) for Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America.
A strategic and dynamic leader, Ms. Mercedes defines Univision’s overall communications strategy, including the media relations approach for all corporate and business matters, industry issues, as well as Sports and Entertainment content publicity. Throughout her time at Univision, she has been instrumental in establishing Univision as America’s Hispanic Superbrand and positioning the strategic opportunity the Hispanic consumer represents as an economic growth engine of the future. She reports to the CEO and partners with Univision’s C-Suite to develop communications approaches that advance the Company’s objectives.
An accomplished leader, Ms. Mercedes has played an integral role in some of Univision’s most successful communications and awareness campaigns in the last decade. In an acknowledgement of her work and impact, she was recognized with a Gracies Leadership Award by the Alliance for Women in Media and named Pioneer of the Year by the HPRA (Hispanic Public Relations Association). She was previously recognized among the Rising Communications Leaders in North America by The Holmes Report and as one of the Top Women in PR by PR News. She currently co-leads the executive steering committee for Univision’s Women’s Leadership Council and serves on the Board of the Univision Foundation and Univision’s Political Action Committee.
In addition to her role as CCO, Ms. Mercedes co-leads Univision’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Taskforce. The group, comprised of senior leaders from across the Company, is charged with expanding and advancing the Company’s Diversity agenda. A passionate advocate for diversity, in 2018 her story was featured in “Diverse Voices: Profiles in Leadership,” a ground-breaking book developed to help communications professionals better understand challenges faced by people of color in the communications and public relations profession. She also supports The LAGRANT Foundation, a non-profit group focused on increasing the pipeline of diverse talent entering the public relations, marketing and advertising fields.
Prior to Univision, she worked in various communications roles across sectors, including non-profit, higher education, social responsibility and real estate.
Ms. Mercedes earned a Master of Arts in Corporate and Public Communications from Seton Hall University, where she also mentors current undergraduates through the Communication Honors Associates Mentoring Program (CHAMP). She is fluent in Spanish and conversational in French.
