Jonathan Schwartz is Chief Legal and Corporate Affairs Officer at Univision Communications Inc., the leading Hispanic media company in the U.S. In addition to serving as Univision’s top lawyer and corporate secretary, Schwartz oversees the following areas: Business Affairs, Government Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility, Community Empowerment, Corporate Compliance, Global Security, and Standards and Practices.
Prior to joining Univision, Schwartz served as managing director and general counsel for JPMorgan’s Investment Bank. Previously, he was executive vice president and general counsel at Cablevision Systems. Prior to that, Schwartz held various roles, including senior vice president and deputy general counsel of Time Warner Inc., and general counsel of online music company Napster.
Earlier in his career, Schwartz served as a law clerk for Judge Harry T. Edwards on the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. and for Justice Thurgood Marshall on the U.S. Supreme Court. He then worked as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. After that he joined the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he worked for the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General.
Schwartz graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School with a bachelor’s of science degree in economics and received his juris doctorate degree from Stanford Law School. He then received a Fulbright Scholarship to attend Cambridge University, where he earned a master’s degree in international relations. During his tenure at the Department of Justice, Schwartz also served as a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics.
Schwartz is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Dean’s Advisory Council at Stanford Law School, and the University of Pennsylvania’s Athletics Board of Overseers.
