UNIVISION NEWS & LULAC TO CO-HOST VIRTUAL TOWN HALL WITH U.S. SENATORS ON COVID-19’s DISPROPORTIONATE IMPACT ON LATINO AND MINORITY COMMUNITIES
Univision News and the Nation’s Oldest & Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization will Host a Virtual Town Hall with U.S. Senators
MIAMI, FLORIDA, MAY 22, 2020 – Univision News and The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) will host a virtual town hall with U.S. Senators to discuss the economic crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic in Latino and minority communities. Hispanic Americans are significantly more likely to have experienced pay cuts and job losses stemming from the pandemic compared to other demographic groups, and the CDC has reported that current data suggest a disproportionate burden of illness and death among racial and ethnic minority groups.
Univision News Anchor Jorge Ramos will moderate the town hall with event co-hosts Domingo Garcia, LULAC National President and Sindy Benavides, LULAC CEO. They will be joined by distinguished guest Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Kamala Harris (D-CA), Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Most panelists represent states with large minority populations that have been hit hard by the pandemic.
WHAT:
Univision News and LULAC host a town hall to discuss the impact of COVID-19 across states with significant Latino and minority populations, new legislation including the HEROES Act, and addressing barriers to voting during this health and economic crisis.
The town hall will be held in English with simultaneous Spanish-language translation.

Miami, FLORIDA, 22 DE MAYO DE 2020 – Univision Noticias y La Liga de Ciudadanos Latinoamericanos Unidos (LULAC) organizarán un foro virtual con cinco senadores estadounidenses para discutir la crisis económica provocada por la pandemia COVID-19 en la comunidad latina y dentro de las comunidades minoritarias. Los hispanoamericanos son significativamente más propensos a haber experimentado recortes salariales y perdidas de empleo derivados de la pandemia en comparación con otros grupos demográficos, y la CDC ha reportado que los datos más actualizados sugieren una carga desproporcionada de enfermedad y muerte entre las minorías raciales y étnicas.
El presentador de Univision Noticias, Jorge Ramos, moderará el foro acompañado por el Presidente de LULAC, Domingo García, y la CEO de LULAC, Sindy Benavides.
