MIAMI, FL – May 24, 2017 –Univision Miami in collaboration with Papa John’s Pizza and Nova Southeastern University, will honor ten outstanding South Florida teachers at the 16th Annual “Un Maestro Especial” (A Special Teacher) awards luncheon. The event will be hosted by WLTV-Univision 23 anchor Sandra Peebles at the Miami Lakes Educational Center on Thursday, May 25th.
Created by Univision Miami 16 years ago, “Un Maestro Especial” recognizes and rewards teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty and have a distinct and profound impact on their students.
“We are proud to honor these exceptional teachers with the ‘Un Maestro Especial’ award,” said Claudia Puig, senior vice president and general manager of Univision Miami. “Our teachers in the community have the very special assignment to educate and empower our future leaders and together with our partners we want to ensure the champions of education are recognized for their indispensable commitment to academic excellence.”
This year’s winners, selected from hundreds of applications submitted by students, parents and professional colleagues, are: Yvette Rodriguez, Hialeah Gardens Middle School; Ivette Lirio, Hialeah Gardens Middle School; Roberto Rabelo, South Miami Middle Community School; Lisa Marie Gomez, Pinecrest Elementary School; Gina Marmol, Coral Reef Senior High School; Elena Capablanca, La Salle High School; Annette Fernandez, Biscayne Elementary School; Maria Chandon, Norland Elementary School; Gabriela Kilianski, Oakridge Elementary School and Olga Benoit, Mater Academy Charter Middle School.

MIAMI, FL –24 DE MayO De 2017– Univision Miami en colaboración con Papa John’s Pizza y Nova Southeastern University, otorgarán reconocimiento a diez maestros sobresalientes del sur de Florida en el 16to almuerzo anual de premiación “Un Maestro Especial”. El evento, que contará con la conducción de Sandra Peebles, presentadora de noticias de WLTV-Univision 23, se llevará a cabo el jueves, 25 de mayo en el Miami Lakes Educational Center.
“Un Maestro Especial”, creado por Univision Miami hace 16 años, otorga reconocimiento y recompensa a aquellos maestros que van más allá del deber y tienen un impacto positivo y profundo en sus alumnus.
“Nos enorgullece homenajear a estos maestros excepcionales con el premio ‘Un Maestro Especial’”, dijo Claudia Puig, vicepresidenta sénior y gerente general de Univision Miami. “Los maestros en nuestra comunidad tienen una tarea muy especial, que es educar y empoderar a los líderes futuros, y queremos asegurarnos, junto con nuestros aliados, de que se otorgue reconocimiento a los promotores de la educación por su compromiso indispensable con la excelencia académica”.
