Univision Music Group Mourns Loss of Young Mexican Music Idol Adan “Chalino” Sanchez
Woodland Hills, CA -- Univision Music Group today joins the Sanchez family and thousands of Latin music fans in mourning the loss of Adan “Chalino” Sanchez, 19 years old, one of Regional Mexican music’s most promising young stars. The Univision Music Group recording artist was fatally injured in an automobile accident on Saturday afternoon on a highway in the Mexican State of Sinaloa en route to Puerto Vallarta where he was scheduled to perform last night.
Adan was the son of legendary “Corrido” singer/songwriter, Chalino Sanchez, who was murdered in Sinaloa, Mexico 12 years ago. Following in his father’s footsteps, Adan began a singing career at the age of nine and developed a loyal following of fans in the U.S. and Mexico. His charismatic smile and stage presence engaged audiences of all ages, but was especially popular with a growing youthful Latina fan base.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic news, and all of us have lost a good friend, a brilliant artist, and a great human being,” said Jose Behar, President and CEO of Univision Music Group upon learning of Adan’s fatal accident. “All who knew and worked with Adan remember his pleasant spirit and positive attitude. A kind and special individual, Adan loved his mother and sister and worked hard to fulfill his dream of paying homage to his father and to also record and perform his own style of music. We have been honored that he entrusted us with his music and friendship, all of us at Univision Music Group will greatly miss him,” added Behar.
Just last week, Adan became the youngest artist to headline a concert at the prestigious Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California, an impressive showing for the young performer who delivered an incredible 2-hour concert before a sold-out audience at the famous venue. One of the highlights of his performance was a special dedication of a song he wrote to honor his father, the late Chalino Sanchez along with a multi-media presentation of photos of the two together.
A Southern California native, Adan lived with his mother, Marisela Sanchez and his younger sister Cynthia at their home in Paramount, California. Very proud of his Mexican heritage, Adan was traditional yet full of energy and also enjoyed the youthful sounds of the growing Urban Regional music movement that encompasses both Regional Mexican music and Latin Hip Hop sounds. He recently “guest starred” on the highly successful and critically acclaimed Urban Regional album by AKWID, also a Los Angeles-based artist. Adan sings in the track “A Pesar De Todo” along with AKWID.
Traveling with Adan were three individuals including his long-time manager and friend, Ms. Lorena Rodriguez of Santa Ana, California. All three were reportedly hospitalized and are recuperating in Mexico. No additional details are available at this time. “We wish a speedy and complete recovery to Adan’s fellow travelers, especially to Ms. Rodriguez, with whom we have a very close working relationship,” concluded Behar.
Adan’s album “Un Soñador” (A Dreamer) with Univision Music Group was released on August 5, 2003 in the U.S. and Mexico.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
