Univision Records Presents Posthumous Album for Late Regional Mexican Teen Idol Adan “Chalino” Sanchez

“Mis Verdaderos Amigos,” Sanchez’s unfinished album is recorded by his best friends

Woodland Hills, CA -- The musical legacy and memory of Regional Mexican music teen idol Adan “Chalino” Sanchez, who died in a tragic auto accident in Mexico earlier this year, continues in the posthumous album to be released next week by Univision Records.

“Mis Verdaderos Amigos” (My True Friends), the official album backed by Sanchez’s mother, Maricela Vallejo de Sanchez, was unveiled this week at a press conference in Univision Music Group’s Woodland Hills, California headquarters.  Mrs. Sanchez, accompanied by her daughter Sintia Sanchez, Adan “Chalino” Sanchez’s best friends, and label executives presented the new album in a small and intimate setting.

After presenting the album to key journalists, Jose Behar, President and CEO, Univision Music Group, surprised Ms. Sanchez and the deceased artist’s last manager Lorena Rodriguez with a RIAA certified Latin Gold Album for sales over 100,000 units of Adan “Chalino” Sanchez’s debut album with Univision Records “Un Soñador” (A Dreamer).

“It is truly a sad and joyous occasion.  It’s joyous because my son’s memory is alive thanks to all the fans and people that love him, and sad because he’s not here to personally receive this great recognition.  I’m certain he’s with us in spirit and wherever he is, he’s celebrating with us,” stated Mrs. Sanchez.

While the young artist’s life was cut short,  his legacy and dream lives on.  With the support of Univision Records, Adan “Chalino” Sanchez’s music heritage is kept alive with “Mis Verdaderos Amigos” (My True Friends), an emotional album that has the absolute signature of this new “Banda” music idol.  Before his tragic trip to Mexico and before his historic headline show at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California, Sanchez had already began working on his follow-up album with Univision Records and had selected and produced all the musical arrangements of this new album.

Sadly though, he was scheduled to go to the recording studio to lay his vocals after his shows in Mexico, a task he was never able to complete.

Nonetheless, Sanchez’s memory and his untimely death motivated his mother and his best friends—out of respect for his fans—to complete the project that was so dear to her son’s heart.

“Mis Verdaderos Amigos” (My True Friends), is the culmination of the album Sanchez was supposed to turn in to Univision Records as his sophomore effort with the label.  But the album in itself goes beyond the music, it’s a tribute from his mother, his sister Sintia Sanchez and his best friends to his talent, his excellence as a human being and to the memory of a dear friend, beloved son and brother, and the unforgettable idol of thousands.  This album captures, without a doubt, Sanchez’s essence and his artistic sensibility, two characteristics that keep him alive in the hearts of all those who followed his career.

The album is comprised of 13 cuts.  The most notable ones are the two previously unreleased tracks with Sanchez’s voice “Amor Del Alma,” which is also included in a “Norteño” version and the collectors’ piece “Te Necesito Junto A Mi,” which has been released to radio as the first promotional cut.  This track is also included as an added bonus track in two alternate versions, a “Norteño” version and a Pop ballad, marking the first time Sanchez is heard in this genre.  International producer Rudy Perez masterfully produced the pop ballad version.

The album is offered in a CD/DVD package only and it includes a photo gallery, a photo montage of the two songs performed by Sanchez and testimonials from his sister and his best friends, who perform the remainder of the songs on this new production. Some of the recording’s highlights include his sister Sintia Sanchez’s “Leticia Isabel,” a  Spanish cover of “You’re The One,” Sanchez’s cousin Armando “El Güero” Sanchez on “Corrido de Macario Osuna,” “Sufro Porque Te Quiero” (I Suffer Because I Love You) in the voice of El Compa Kito, “La Unica Estrella” (The Only Star) performed by Christian Ochoa,” “El Desquite” (Getting Even) with Carlos Beltran, “Tengo Que Olvidarte” (I Need To Forget You), beautifully performed by Liliana and perhaps one of the gems of the album aside from the tracks with Sanchez’s voice; and finally, Marcos Quintero on the classic and melancholic Mexican farewell standard “Las Golondrinas” (The Swallows).

Just one week before his 20th birthday, and one week after becoming the youngest artist to headline a concert at the prestigious Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California, Sanchez joined the Milky Way and left behind nine full-length albums and over 10 years of a musical career full of great success in the U.S. and Mexico.  But perhaps his greatest legacy was his unconditional love for his mother and his sister, his unwavering passion for music, his infinite respect for his public and the uncontainable desire to keep his father’s memory alive through his music,  something “Mis Verdaderos Amigos” (My True Friends) and Univision Records now attempt to do for him.

March 20, 2004 will forever live in the hearts of the sold out audience that witnessed the historic performance at the Kodak Theatre, which catapulted Sanchez’s career to stardom at the age of 19.  Sanchez became the youngest performer ever to headline a show at the theatre.  Full of dreams, an unmatched and unique personality, and abundant talent, Adan “Chalino” Sanchez, son of legendary Mexican Corrido artist Chalino Sanchez, had reached superstardom.

A week following this unprecedented feat in the short but fruitful career of young Sanchez, his dreams, his career and his life were cut short by a tragic automobile accident in Sinaloa, Mexico, an accident that would forever change the course of contemporary “Banda” music and the lives of his family and his fans.
