Los Huracanes del Norte Set Personal Record as They Rule the #1 Spot on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Chart for Nine Consecutive Weeks
“Nomas por tu Culpa,” becomes an unprecedented hit single for legendary regional Mexican act
Woodland Hills, CA -- Los Huracanes Del Norte, one of Mexico’s leading and most prolific Regional Mexican ensembles continue holding strong to the # 1 position of the Regional Mexican Music Airplay list in the U.S. and Puerto Rico for nine consecutive weeks with their smash hit single “Nomas Por Tu Culpa” (Because of You), an unprecedented feat for a band with a career that spans three decades.
In addition, this success is reflected in sales that exceed 100,000 units of their debut album “En El Tiempo” (In Time) with Univision Records, which in the Latin music industry makes them eligible for an RIAA Gold certification. According to Univision Records, the sales registered to date will most likely garner them a Latin Platinum certification as well.
According to Billboard Magazine’s current issue, “Nomas Por Tu Culpa,” the second promotional cut continues topping the Regional Mexican Music Airplay chart at #1 for nine weeks in a row, a feat never before accomplished in the U.S. by this Regional Mexican Music staple. In addition, “Nomas Por Tu Culpa,” also holds the #6 spot on the Hot Latin Tracks chart.
Penned by Salvador Serna Del Rio and sent to radio nationally and Puerto Rico on July 2003, “Nomas Por Tu Culpa” has become an unparalleled success story for the band led by Heraclio ‘Rocky’ Garcia. Billboard’s Regional Mexican Music Airplay Chart is based on programming airplay data in the U.S. and Puerto Rico compiled by Nielsen Broadcast Data System.
Los Huracanes del Norte are currently nominated for two important awards in the upcoming Los Angeles based “Que Buena” Regional Mexican Music Awards. “Nomas Por Tu Culpa” garnered a nomination for Best Song by a Norteño Group and a nomination for Best Norteño Group. The awards will take place on December 10, 2003 at the Universal Amphitheatre.
“The enormous acceptance achieved by Los Huracanes del Norte is the result of the quality of their music and their career’s consistency, evidenced by their status as a consolidated institution in the Regional Mexican genre,” stated Manolo Gonzalez, Sr. VP, National Promotions and Regional Mexican A&R, Univision Music Group.
“En El Tiempo” is comprised of 12 tracks, of which four are in the ‘corrido’ genre: “Baraja Ensangrentada” (Bloody Card Deck), “Carrera Infernal” (Race From Hell), “Corrido Del Grande” and “Cascos de Guacho” (Soldier Helmets). Nonetheless, the album also includes romantic tracks like “Tu Fiel Prisionero” (Your Faithful Prisoner), “Ojitos Soñadores” (Dreamy Eyes), “Ya No Me Duele” (It Doesn’t Hurt Anymore) and the melancholic “Dale Su Bendicion” (Give Her Your Blessing). According to Los Huracanes’ point of view, “the ‘corrido’ is the people’s authentic way of expression, because these songs talk about horses, race cars, honest immigrants crossing the border, popular heroes and other current events. In the beginning the ‘corrido’ only dealt with Mexican revolution narrative and the heroes of that time. We have done all types of ‘corridos’ and they have worked great for us.”
Spearheading a new generation of Los Huracanes del Norte, the group recently added new blood with the incorporation of 22-year-old Antonio García, son of Heraclio "Rocky" García, director, founder, bassist and lead vocalist of the group, who joined the group in drums as soon as he graduated from high school. The second addition was young and talented José Luis Mejía, a childhood friend of Heraclio’s sons, who joined as new accordionist and lead vocals on ‘Por tu culpa’. The remainder of the group remains intact with Heraclio "Rocky" García and his brothers Jesús "Chuy" García, accordionist and second voice; Francisco "Pancho" García, six-string guitar; and Guadalupe "Lupillo" García, on saxophone.
