Univision 33 and the City of Phoenix Join Forces Against School Dropout Rates, with “El 33 a su Lado”

Phoenix, AZ -- The leader in Spanish-language television in Arizona, KTVW Univision 33, is partnering this December 4th with the Phoenix Youth and Education Office to combat high-school dropout rates among the Hispanic community under the theme of “Phoenix Graduates.”

From 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 4th, 2003, volunteers from Phoenix City Hall will be fielding calls from viewers to help answer their questions regarding this important topic. Noticias Univision 33 will be covering live this event, with special news bulletins regarding this topic, and two special editions at 5 p.m. and at 10 p.m. Segments will cover special reports, interviews, and guidance for teachers and parents on how to prevent a rising high school dropout rate.

“El 33 a su Lado,” a program designed to reach Arizona’s Hispanic population, will be featuring this collaboration in a special telethon. Arizona has one of the highest dropout rates in the country. Additionally, approximately only half of Latino Youth in Phoenix obtain a high school diploma.

During previous telecasts of “El 33 a su Lado”, over 1,500 phone calls have been received.
