Cox Communications Launches Telefutura in Phoenix
Phoenix, AZ -- Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE: UVN), the leading Spanish-language media company in the U.S., today announced that Cox Communications has launched popular Spanish-language broadcast television network TeleFutura on its cable system in Phoenix, Arizona, to bring the Phoenix Hispanic community new and exciting Spanish-language viewing choices. Cox subscribers will find TeleFutura KFPH on Channel 54. The addition of the TeleFutura station provides the Phoenix community with alternative viewing options including blockbuster Hollywood movies, dynamic sports programs, and inventive reality shows.
“Cox prides itself on being a first-class entertainment provider for our Latino customers, and the addition of TeleFutura to our lineup confirms our commitment to provide them the very best programming,” said Steve Rizley, vice president and region manager for Cox Communications Arizona. “We are particularly pleased to launch TeleFutura as a very special offering to all Latinos in the Valley during Hispanic Heritage Month.”
"We are delighted that Cox will now bring TeleFutura’s high quality, culturally-relevant programming to its subscribers among the rapidly growing Hispanic community in Phoenix,” said Ramon Pineda, General Manager, KFPH, Phoenix, Arizona. “If TeleFutura's runaway success across the country is any indication, I’m sure that Cox viewers will eagerly choose TeleFutura for access to the latest and greatest in Spanish-language movies, sports, talk shows, game shows and novelas.”
According to Nielsen’s 2003-2004 Universe Estimates, Phoenix DMA is the 9th largest Hispanic Market with a total population of 4,094,000, of which 24% are Hispanic. Buying power of Hispanics in the Phoenix DMA was 14.7 billion in 2003.
The TeleFutura Television Network was launched on January 14, 2002, as the first 24-hour national television network to premier with programming in every daypart.
TeleFutura was created to provide a new range of viewing choices to U.S. Hispanics of all ages. Its programming is distinct from that of Univision Communications’ other television networks (Univision and Galavision) as well as all other Spanish- and English-language networks. TeleFutura counter-programs existing Spanish-language television networks, airing alternative genres during nearly every daypart. For example, TeleFutura broadcasts hit movies against primetime novelas, first-run talk shows against daytime novelas, and original novelas against news and talk shows.
