Univision 41 in 2nd NY 6 PM Demographic Clean Sweep of 2002

New York, NY -- In the second major ratings upset of 2002, Spanish- language Univision 41 (WXTV) here has emerged as New York's top-rated TV station in the area's 6 pm news race among all three key demographic audience groups according to recently released Nielsen Station Index figures for the July 2002 sweep.  The July 2002 sweep (July 11 - August 7, 2002) is one of four, annual, four-week periods in which the audiences of TV stations nationwide are measured to set advertising rates.  This is the second time that Univision 41 won the
three 6 pm news demographic races.  The first was in the February 2002 sweep.

Univision 41's "Noticias 41" 6 pm local news program with anchors Rafael Pineda and Denisse Oller, is number one among viewers aged 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54 years old in New York's 6 pm weekday news race, beating such powerhouse stations as WNBC Channel 4 and WABC-TV Channel 7.  During the July sweep "Noticias 41" was seen by 112,000 viewers aged 18-34, 241,000 aged 18-49, and a whopping 253,000 viewers aged 25-54.  WABC/7 was second in each category with 75,000 viewers aged 18-34, 211,000 aged 18-49, and 244,000 aged 25-54 years old.  Spanish-language Telemundo
WNJU 47's "Noticiero 47" was third among 18-34 year old viewers with 63,000, beating co-owned WNBC/4, which had 52,000.  WNBC/4 ran third among viewers aged 18-49 and 25-54 with 153,000 and 187,000 respectively, while WNJU/47 ran fourth in both with 111,000 and 93,000 respectively.  WCBS-TV Channel 2 finished last in all three categories with 11,000 viewers aged 18-34, 57,000 aged 18-49, and 90,000 aged
25-54.

In the race between the 6:30 pm network newscasts in New York, Univision's "Noticiero Univision" with anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas finished first among viewers aged 18-34 with 99,000, second among those aged 18-49 with 210, 000, and a strong third among those aged 25-54 with 218,000.  ABC's "World News Tonight" on WABC/7 ran second among those aged 18-34 with 77,000 viewers, first among 18-49
year olds with 231,000 and first among those aged 25-54 with 264,000.  Telemundo's "Noticiero Telemundo" on WNJU/47 just edged out co-owned WNBC/4 for third place among those aged 18-34 with 60,000 compared to 59,000 for the peacock station.  "NBC Nightly News" was third among those aged 18-49 with 198,000 viewers and finished second among those aged 25-54 with 240,000.  "Noticiero Telemundo" ran fourth among those aged 18-49 and last among those aged 25-54 with 115,000 and 104,000 viewers respectively.  "The CBS Evening News" on WCBS/2 ran last among
those aged 18-34 and 18-49 with 15,000 and 69,000 viewers respectively, but edged out Telemundo for fourth place with the 25-54 crowd at 108,000 viewers.
