Renowned Sports Commentator, Jorge Ramos, Joins Network Team for Cup Coverage
Miami, FL -- Continuing with the commitment to bring Hispanic TV viewers the best in world sporting events, Spanish-language television networks TeleFutura and Galavision will broadcast the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup from September 20 to October 12. Approximately forty million viewers tuned in for the final match of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup and watched as the U.S. women’s soccer team beat China, exceeding all expectations. This year’s tournament will mark the third time in ten years that the U.S. Soccer Federation hosts a FIFA World Cup and also the first time in history that the tournament is hosted consecutively by the same nation. Sixteen teams will be competing for the coveted Cup: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ghana, Japan, Nigeria, Norway, South Korea, North Korea, Russia, Sweden, and U.S.
The broadcasts will include the participation of sports commentator and journalist, Jorge Ramos, better known as “the Americas Commentator”. Ramos will join TeleFutura and Galavision’s highly regarded sports commentary team: Pablo Ramírez, Ricardo Mayorga, Jorge Pérez-Navarro and Eduardo Solano.
For three weeks, TeleFutura and Galavision will air a total of 32 matches of the best in women’s soccer from six venues across the United States: Boston, Columbus, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Portland and Washington D.C. Fourteen games will be broadcast on TeleFutura and eighteen on its sister cable network, Galavision.
Throughout the Women’s World Cup competition, soccer fans will also be able to enjoy the insightful commentaries of female sports analyst, Fatima Leyva, presently one of the most valuable players of the Mexican National Women’s Soccer Team and captain of the 1999 Mexican World Cup Team. The networks’ sports division has also invited one of soccer’s most reputable coaches, Leonardo Cuellar, to join as guest commentator. Currently with the Mexican Women’s Soccer Team, Cuellar will be on hand for some of the competition’s most exciting matches.
Soccer aficionados will be able to catch the highlights of the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup’s best matches and tune into daily reports from the host cities on TeleFutura’s nightly sports program, “Contacto Deportivo Ford”, at 11:00pm (ET) / 10:00pm (CT).
