News Anchor Eileen Cardet Nominated “Volunteer of the Year” by the Puerto Rican Professional Association of South Florida
Miami, FL -- Eileen Cardet, anchor of Noticias 23 “Al Amanecer” (morning news show) at Univision (WLTV 23 / Miami), has been nominated “Volunteer of the Year” by the Puerto Rican Professional Association of South Florida (PROFESA), in recognition of her work with “Club de Libros 23” (Univision 23’s Book Club), a program promoting the educational benefits of bilingual reading. The awards will be presented Friday, October 10 AT 8:00 p.m. at the Hilton Miami Airport, 5101 Blue Lagoon Drive, Miami.
PROFESA is a not-for-profit organization created in 1999 by a group of Puerto Rican professionals in South Florida in order to support existing community organizations and to profess understanding and love for Puerto Rico, its culture, and the aspirations and potential of its people, who have evolved from humble beginnings into more educated, proud, and modern professionals. Less than two years after its inauguration, PROFESA became one of the largest Puerto Rican organizations in South Florida, and one of the most active in the community.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, of Cuban parents, Eileen Cardet joined the Noticias 23 family in 1998, where she has specialized in education issues. In keeping with her passion for education, Cardet heads “Club de Libros 23,” a joint effort of Univision 23, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and book publisher Santillana USA. “Club de Libros 23” highlights the importance of reading in education and the positive messages that can be found in books. Among other activities which continue throughout the school year, the program features weekly book reading segments by Cardet on Univision 23’s “Al Amanecer” broadcast.
Cardet graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in Public Communications, and worked as print journalist before moving to Florida in 1993 to seek her master’s degree in Television Journalism from the University of Miami.
