KMEX-TV to Broadcast Mexican Independence Day Tradition, "El Grito", from L.A. City Hall September 15
Los Angeles, CA -- Univision 34, KMEX-TV will join the Los Angeles Latino community in celebrating Mexico’s independence with the historic El Grito of Dolores, Mexico’s call for independence, which will broadcast from the steps of Los Angeles City Hall on Sunday, September 15 from 10 to 11 p.m. on KMEX-TV.
El Grito commemorates a Mexican tradition dating back to 1810, when Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, in the town of Dolores Hidalgo in the state of Guanajuato, gave the signal that initiated the successful war for independence against the Spanish colonial government. Hosted by “Noticias 34’s” Teresa Quevedo and Ismael Hernandez Moctezuma, Los Angeles’ El Grito celebration begins on-site at 7 p.m. on the Spring Street steps of City Hall with a live concert by top Latin performers, including Jennifer Peña, Jose Hernandez’s Mariachi Sol de Mexico, Rogelio Martinez, Raza Obrera, Manuel Romero and many others.
Los Angeles Mexican Consul General, Ambassador Martha I. Lara, will re-enact the historic call for independence and will be joined by Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn; City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo; L.A. City Council President Alex Padilla and Councilmen Nick Pacheco, Eric Garcetti and Ed Reyes; and Angel Morales, President of the Mexican Civic Patriotic Committee.
