Los Angeles, CA -- KMEX-TV, Channel 34, the leading Spanish-language television station in the country, walked away with a bundle of Emmy gold Saturday night, winning the coveted Award in four categories during the 54th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards presentation presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood.
KMEX-TV’s local morning newscast, “Noticias 34: Primera Edición” [News 34: First Edition] was awarded the Best Local Daytime Newscast Emmy at the ceremony, marking a major milestone for the program which took to the airwaves in January 1999.  KMEX-TV competed against KNBC, KCAL, KVEA, KTLA and KTTV in this category.  This also marks KMEX-TV’s third Best Newscast Emmy in five years, having been recognized with the Best Local Newscast Emmy in 1998 and 2000 for its 11 p.m. and 6 p.m. news, respectively.

In the Best Live Special Event category, KMEX-TV also received an Emmy for a second consecutive year for its 2001 edition of the Tournament of Roses Parade broadcast, which competed against KTLA for this distinction.
KMEX-TV’s other two wins of the evening included recognition in the Best Crime/Social Issues category for “Cara a Cara con Vicente Fox”, a historic encounter between Mexican President Vicente Fox and California Governor Gray Davis, and a Best Videographer Award captured by KMEX-TV five-year cameraman, Art Quezada.
