Univision 45 Presents a Special Program about the Importance of Voting in the November Elections “Destino 2004”

Houston, TX -- The U.S. Latino vote has never been as important as it is today. The numbers indicate that the Hispanic demographic may be a key-determining factor in the upcoming presidential election. However, it is up to Hispanic voters to prove their power as a whole.  For this reason, Univision 45 KXLN-TV will present a half hour voter education special titled “Destino 2004” (Destiny 2004).  The special will air on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 9 a.m. and will be hosted by Noticias 45 news anchors Beatriz De Alvarado and Antonio Hernandez.

The importance of voting has always been apparent. However, there are many who either choose to overlook this fact or are uninformed about the impact their single vote could have on their future.  “With this special we hope to encourage potential voters to go to the polls and cast their vote while demonstrating that the voting process is not as intimidating as some may think,” KXLN News Director Deanna Landrón commented.

The program will first address the importance of the Hispanic vote and why participation is the key to voicing one’s opinion.  Next, the two major political parties will take center stage, focusing on this election year’s candidates and their platforms. The special will also ease potential voters’ hesitations of going out to vote by explaining step-by-step how to use the electronic voting machine and that language assistance will be available to them at the polls.  The program will then conclude with the stories of several voters discussing why voting is important to them and why they encourage others to do the same.

The stories in the program are presented by news anchors/reporters in the following order: Beatriz De Alvarado, Patricio Espinoza, Lourdes Montoya and Antonio Hernandez.  The program is produced by KXLN’s Public Affairs Director Grace Olivares Hernández.
