Univision Reaches 8 Million Viewers with Finale of “La Que No Podia Amar” and Outperforms ABC, CBS and FOX

Finale Made Univision Stations No. 1 among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas


MIAMI – AUGUST 13, 2012 – Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, announced today that Friday night’s two-hour grand finale of the hit novela “La Que No Podia Amar” (The One That Couldn’t Love) reached 8 million viewers who tuned in to all or part of the broadcast. The novela finale delivered an average audience of 5.8 million Total Viewers 2+, nearly 3 million Adults 18-49 and 1.6 million Adults 18-34, while positioning Univision as the No. 2 broadcast network outperforming ABC, CBS and FOX during the two-hour airing and for the entire night. The Univision Network also out-delivered its closest competitor ABC with a strong audience advantage of +82% among Adults 18-49 and +166% among Adults 18-34 on Friday night.

Airing on Friday, August 10 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET, the finale of “La Que No Podia Amar” was the second most-watched program on all of broadcast television, behind the 2012 Summer Olympics on NBC, across all key demographics including Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. In fact, since the start of the 2012 Summer Olympics, Univision’s “La Que No Podia Amar” has been the highest-rated non-Olympic or second-highest rated program behind the Summer Olympics on virtually every weeknight among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. In the last two weeks, “La Que No Podia Amar” drew over half a million more Total Viewers 2+ (+779,000) than its average audience in its seven month run.

Among Adults 18-49 in Houston, Univision was the No. 1 local station in the time period, beating the 2012 Summer Olympics on NBC. Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas, “La Que No Podia Amar” positioned Univision as the No. 1 station in the time period, beating the 2012 Summer Olympics on NBC. In fact, in Los Angeles and Houston, the novela had higher viewership than the ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX stations combined in the time period among Adults 18-34.

Additionally, “La Que No Podia Amar” on Univision was the No. 1 broadcast program in Total Day viewing among Adults 18-49 in Houston, and among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas and Sacramento.

“La Que No Podia Amar” also made Univision the No. 2 broadcast station during the time period, behind the 2012 Summer Olympics on NBC stations, in the following markets:

  • Among Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
  • Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
  • Among Adults 18-34 in New York, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento

As part of its social TV efforts, Univision engaged with audiences throughout the night, positioning “La Que No Podia Amar” among the top five broadcast shows in primetime and #laquenopodiaamar among the Top 10 TV series hashtags, according to SocialGuide.

A story of passion, betrayal and unrequited love, “La Que No Podía Amar” followed a young woman’s struggle to be reunited with her true love.
