Univision Set to Finish July Sweeps As No. 1 Network during Primetime among Adults 18-34

KMEX Univision 34 Los Angeles and WXTV Univision 41 New York rank as  No. 1 and No. 2 most watched stations in primetime among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, regardless of language


MIAMI, FL – JULY 26, 2012 – The Univision Network announced today that it will close the July 2012 sweep period as the No. 1 network among Adults 18-34 and the No. 2 network, ahead of ABC, CBS, NBC and the CW, among Adults 18-49 in primetime. Univision also finished as the No. 1 network on Friday nights for the eighth consecutive July sweep among Adults 18-34 and for the fifth consecutive July sweep among Adults 18-49.

With an average audience of 3.5 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.7 million Adults 18-49 and 922,000 Adults 18-34 in primetime, Univision has out-delivered at least one or more of the English-language broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and the CW) on every night of the July 2012 sweep thus far among both Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49.

Whereas ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and the CW, on average, are reporting audience declines of -10%, Univision is generating slight audience gains (+1%) among Adults 18-34 in comparison to the same nights during last year’s July sweep period.

With a median age of 38 years old, Univision delivers the youngest viewers during broadcast primetime than the English-language broadcast networks: ABC (53 years old), CBS (60 years old), NBC (54 years old), FOX (45 years old) and the CW (42 years old).

ADDITIONAL NETWORK HIGHLIGHTS:

Univision’s primetime novelas, “Abismo De Pasion” (Abyss of Passion) and “La Que No Podia Amar” (The One Who Couldn’t Love) delivered more Adult 18-34 and Adult 18-49 viewers than many of the regularly-scheduled primetime programs on broadcast television including:

  • ABC’s “Duets,” “Final Witness,” “The Glass House,” “NY Med” and “Rookie Blue”
  • CBS’ “Dogs In The City”
  • NBC’s “Fear Factor,” “Love In The Wild” and “Saving Hope”
  • FOX’s “The Choice” and “Take Me Out”
  • CW’s “Breaking Pointe,” “Catalina” and “L.A. Complex”

Airing at 10 p.m. ET/PT,  “La Que No Podia Amar” also out-performed original airings of CBS’ “Big Brother 14” and FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance” among Adults 18-34.

During the July 2012 sweep period, KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles and WXTV Univision 41 in New York led all other stations in the country as the No. 1 and No. 2 most watched stations in primetime among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, regardless of language. 

Additionally, among Adults 18-49, Univision had three of the Top 10 local stations in primetime, regardless of language:

  • KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles as No. 1, WXTV Univision 41 in New York as No. 2 and KXLN 45 in Houston as No.  7

Among Adults 18-34, Univision had four of the Top 10 local stations in primetime, regardless of language:

  • KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles as No. 1,  WXTV Univision 41 in New York as No. 2, KXLN Univision 45 in Houston as No. 4 and KUVN Univision 23 in Dallas as No. 7

During the July 2012 sweep period, Univision local stations were No. 1 in primetime in following markets:

  • Among Total Viewers 2+ in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix
  • Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Dallas,  San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
  • Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Dallas and Phoenix 

In early news, WXTV Univision 41 in New York, KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles and KXLN Univision 45 in Houston led all other stations in the country as the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 most watched early local newscasts, respectively, among Adults 18-49, regardless of language.

Additionally, Univision had four of the top 10 most watched early local newscasts in the country among Adults 18-34, regardless of language: 

  • KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles as No. 1, WXTV Univision 41 in New York as No. 3, KXLN Univision 45 in Houston as No. 6 and KUVN Univision 23 in Dallas as No. 7

Univision local stations also delivered the No. 1 early local newscast at 6 p.m. ET (5 p.m. CT), regardless of language, in the following markets:

  • Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco and Sacramento
  • Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas, San Francisco and Phoenix

In late news, during the July 2012 sweep period, KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles and WXTV Univision 41 in New York led all other stations in the country as the No. 1 and No. 2 most watched late local newscasts among Adults 18-49, regardless of language. 

Additionally, among Adults 18-34, Univision had six of the Top 10 local stations in late local news, regardless of language:

  • KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles as No. 1, KXLN Univision 45 in Houston as No.  2, WXTV Univision 41 in New York as No. 3,   KUVN Univision 23 in Dallas as No. 4, WGBO Univision 66 in Chicago as No. 8 and KTVW Univision 33 in Phoenix as No. 9

Univision also had four of the Top 10 most watched late local newscasts in the country among Adults 18-49, regardless of language:

  • KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles as No. 1, WXTV Univision 41 in New York as No. 2, KXLN Univision 45 in Houston as No.  4 and KUVN Univision 23 in Dallas as No. 6

Univision stations delivered the No. 1 late local newscast, regardless of language, in the following markets:

  • Among Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento
  • Among Adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix
