I am thrilled to write my first Univision Insights blog post following a major announcement we made at the Consumer Electronics Show that is dear to my heart, and I know it will be to our advertising partners too. Univision is partnering with Nokia in the launch of their new Lumia phones (For the official press release, click here). Alongside major brand partners such as CNN, ESPN and Sesame Workshop, Univision has released exclusive apps made solely for the Nokia Lumia smartphone. This marks the first deal of its kind and the first introduction of a Univision application to the Windows Phone platform. And from there, we think the possibilities for the future content partnerships are endless.
The Univision app for Windows Phone complements our robust repertoire of mobile offerings that includes a series of Univision apps available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android platforms. And we are thrilled to be able to extend the mobile experience to Nokia users, while providing a stepping-stone to the Windows Phone marketplace. Now Nokia users can access their favorite Univision shows and special events, real-time news and weather. Plus, in the months to come, an exciting update will be released that will allow our advertising partners to extend their reach to a growing mobile audience via the app.
The app is exclusive to Nokia consumers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico for 18 months at which point it will be available across all Windows Phone devices.
I urge you to check out all of our mobile offerings at movil.univision.com. As Hispanics continue to over-index in mobile usage – in the past five years cell phone penetration has grown at a much faster rate with U.S. Hispanics than with non-Hispanics (74 percent vs. 31 percent) – Univision is committed to remain at the forefront of providing this booming mobile segment with expanded offerings. We want to design products that our advertising partners and consumers love, so your feedback is critical.
