Miami, FL — Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, announced today the call for entries for the “Premios Juventud” scholarship, presented by jcpenney. Honoring high school seniors of Hispanic heritage in their quest for higher education, the “Premios Juventud” scholarship is based on academic achievement, financial need and a short essay submission. This year, the “Premios Juventud” scholarship will honor one student with $50,000 provided by jcpenney and two finalists with $2,000 jcpenney gift cards. Applications must be received by Friday, May 27. The winner of the scholarship will be announced during Univision Network’s eighth annual “Premios Juventud” (Youth Awards) show on Thursday, July 21. The show will be broadcast live from the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central).
“Univision is excited to once again partner with jcpenney to open up academic opportunities for today’s Hispanic youth,” said Cesar Conde, president, Univision Networks. “Our youth constantly display an incredible desire to learn. Along with our educational initiative ‘Es el momento,’ we hope to continue on our path of inspiring these future leaders towards education and success.”
The three finalists will also receive a makeover day – complete with hair and beauty services – at a local jcpenney salon in Miami. They will work with a celebrity stylist who will help them pull off a red carpet look for the youth awards show.
“As the leading corporate advocate for the afterschool cause, jcpenney works to empower our nation’s youth by creating opportunities for them to succeed in life,” said Mike Boylson, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for jcpenney. “Our ongoing support of Univision’s ‘Premios Juventud’ demonstrates this commitment as we celebrate the academic achievements of all Hispanic teens.”
