Over 500 people flocked to Chicago Nov. 9-11 to attend the 2011 Latinos in Social Media Conference, better known cybernetically as #LATISM11.
Among the attendees were a record number of marketers, media companies and agencies looking to support and explore “what has been hailed as the most influential online movement in the new multicultural web,” according to its vice chair of communications and PR Elianne Ramos aka @ergeekgoddess.
Like everything in the digital world, the growth of Latino blogosphere has been explosive over the past two and a half years.
According to a list published in LATISM’s first published quarterly magazine, the Latino blogosphere currently has 10 organized groups with over 30,000 twitter followers and over 170,000 Facebook fans collectively.
The groups run the gamut from LATISM and Hispanicize to Blogs by Latinas and Being Latino.

The two-day conference was a multi-discipline, fully bilingual experience exploring every aspect of U.S. Latino life, and contrary to what you’d might expect, it was not an exclusive gathering of Millennials. I saw bloggers of all ages actively engaged and asking questions of the experts that had come to share best practices and insights.
The LATISM Awards Dinner Gala, which was presented by Toyota Motors, included 26 award categories and I am proud to say that Univision’s “Es el momento” national education initiative won for “The Best Multicultural Social Media Campaign.” Other winners can be found on the LATISM website, here.
