Atlanta, GA — Georgia’s first and only local Spanish language TV broadcast station, WUVG-TV Univision 34, in recognition of excellence in Television, received its second consecutive Emmy Award by the Southeast Regional Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, in the category for Outstanding Public Service Announcement: “Promesas”, produced by WUVG-TV Creative Services Director, Rossalind J. Luna and Commercial Producer Julio Cesar Ontiveros.
“Promesas” highlights the impact drunk driving can have on a family and the consequences when automobile accidents occur.
The recognition was announced during the Southeast Regional Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Award Ceremony on Saturday, June 18th, 2004 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta.
The Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is comprised of Spanish and English language stations, television professionals and students, in the States of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Ashville, North Carolina.
WUVG-TV Univision 34 Atlanta started broadcasting January 14, 2002. Currently the only Spanish-language broadcast television station in Atlanta, WUVG-TV Univision 34 covers all counties in North Georgia including the Atlanta Metro.
Beginning in March 2003, Univision 34 started bringing the Atlanta Hispanic community local news stories that directly impact the Spanish-speaking population through nightly news briefs, “Noticias al Minuto.” In early 2004, the station introduced Gianncarlo Cifuentes as the new face of “Noticias al Minuto.” The news briefs are Atlanta’s FIRST daily, local Spanish-language news source and continue to be the lead provider of news and information for the Hispanic community. “Noticias al Minuto” airs weeknights.
WUVG-TV Univision 34 Atlanta also serves the community through its Emmy-nominated community affairs show “Nuestra Georgia”, airing Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. With community news, special guests and a spotlight on current events in Atlanta, “Nuestra Georgia,” provides Hispanic viewers with information about their own community in their own language.
